CBS’ NCIS: Los Angeles will be in new, good hands come Season 8.

Having served as showrunner since siring the NCIS spinoff back in 2009, Shane Brennan (photo, left) is stepping down to focus on developing new projects as part of a two-year extension of his deal with CBS TV Studios.

Among the shows Brennan has been developing is a TV adaptation of the movie franchise The Expendables, currently being shopped around.

Taking over as NCIS: LA showrunner, our sister site Deadline reports, is R. Scott Gemmill, Brennan’s longtime No. 2 and an executive producer since Day 1. He also has written more than 30 of the offshoot’s 160 episodes. Gemmill’s pre-NCIS: LA credits include The Unit, ER and JAG.

NCIS: Los Angeles returns for Season 8 this fall, now airing Sundays at 8/7c, leading into Madam Secretary and then Elementary.

Thank you so much Stacey!! 😉

The pair, who play “Marty Deeks” and “Kensi Blye” on hit CBS show NCIS: Los Angeles, told London MCM Comic Con audience they sometimes forget they aren’t their characters.

NCIS:LA star Eric Christian Olsen sometimes finds it difficult to separate his fictional character from real life – and once tried to chase down a dangerous driver.

Olsen, who plays LAPD Detective Marty Deeks on the hit show, told London MCM London Comic Con how he chased down a van on the freeway.

He said: “You do this show for seven years, you spend 12 hours a day playing this character, at one point you start to lose your mind and you think you are this character.

“So I’m driving down the 10 Freeway, which is a big freeway in LA, and a car – a windowless van – blows by me. It doesn’t hit me, but it hits the car in front of me and it takes off her mirror, and I can hear her scream from my car.

“So I call 911, and 911 says ‘what’s your emergency?’, and I said: ‘I am travelling westbound on the 10 Freeway, I have a brown, windowless van, licence plate Tango Charlie Rectify 321’ – and I didn’t get the last number, so I down-shift and take after this car.

“And she goes ‘where are you now?’ and I said ‘I am in pursuit on the 10, crossing the 405’ and she goes ‘did you say you were in pursuit?’ and I go ‘what?’ and she goes ‘did you say you were in pursuit? and I go ‘Nah.’

“She goes ‘are you chasing the vehicle?’ and I’m like ‘nah, I just didn’t get the last…’ and she goes ‘SIR! Don’t chase the vehicle!’

“I look ahead of me and it’s like a Michael Bay movie. The windowless van hit the centre divider, careens across the traffic – and, like, a Porsche flips through the air, a Volvo comes to a screech, there’s horns everywhere.
