NCIS: Los Angeles’star Daniela Ruah paid a visit to The Talk to chat about her character’s harrowing arc this season, as well as her newborn baby girl, Sierra, who is now just 10 weeks old.
Since Daniela was pregnant for part of shooting NCIS: Los Angeles, the writers and producers came up with the emotional coma/partial paralysis storyline that is currently playing out in Season 8.
Basically, this allowed the creators to shoot 10 episodes worth of scenes for the actress in about a week.
As it stands now, Daniela’s character, Kensi, is in physical therapy, recovering from a brutal mission in Syria.
“One of our writers is an actual ER doctor writer,” Daniela explained, “and he walked me through every [part] of being in a coma, the stages of being in a state of paralysis and slowly coming back again.”
As for Kensi’s relationship with Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen), who has been by his girlfriend’s side every step of the way, two failed marriage proposals continue to loom in the wake of Kensi’s injuries.
“I want to clarify that: I didn’t turn him down,” Daniela said, referring to Deeks’ first proposal. “I was in a coma! [Laughs] Well done, Marty Deeks! Good timing.”
And the second proposal?
“When he decides to propose one more time, once I’m actually awake, he does it when she’s in a really, really bad place,” the actress continues. “She just doesn’t want to have it done in that way. She doesn’t want those memories to be carried out throughout their happy lives together.”
Watch NCIS: Los Angeles on Sundays at 8/7c on CBS and CBS All Access.
